About me

I read this book to my daughter before bed sometimes. It’s called “The Dark” by Lemony Snickets.

It’s about a boy and the dark that lives in the dark places of his house. The dark lives in the basement, the closet and behind the shower curtain. It lives outside the windows at night. The boy, in the book, avoids the dark except to say hello each morning.

“Hi,” he says. “Hi, dark.” And then he shuts the basement door.

It’s my favorite line. I love reading it. I love saying it out loud. It’s so simple. And so perfect.

And in its simplistic perfection, it is all that needs to be said.

So, hi. Hi, friends.

My name is Veronica, and I live in the Western Colorado desert, out of the dark as often as I can.

I am married to an artist who prefers solitude to company and so may very well like the dark thank you very much. We have three children, two girls and a boy.

We have a non-traditional home. I work full-time in public relations and communications. The artist works from home and also takes care of all things kid-related.

I started this blog in November 2011 when I was a single mom of two in Omaha, Neb. My husband and I got married in March 2012. The blog name may continue to just stay what it is. If you prefer, please think of it as FamilyofFiveWithLove.com (yes, I do own that url, too).

So what else? I like reading and writing and music and songwriters and acoustic guitars. I like running and red wine and girlfriends and good coffee and better books. And cats. I like sunshine and swimming and childhood summers. I like the sound of my children’s laughter.

I don’t believe in God. I do believe in the power of the universe.

I believe in being brave, saying hi to the dark, as often as we can.

  1. Enjoyed learning this about you. I’m the same way: I don’t believe in God. I do believe in the power of the universe. I believe things don’t just happen.

  2. I do believe in God. He is a faithful, gentle, loving, omniscient best friend in the worst times. I have two beauties as well 11(boy) and 13(girl)and I have been divorsed almost 9 years. I am so thankful for God’s good grace in giving me abundant joy and trusting me to bring up my children( his children, essentially). It is a blessing above all others and whom else would I have to thank but God? He is all capable and I rely on him and keep my faith on him. The flesh will fail and disappoint at times but who else would I pray to for healing physically and emotionally? No one else can grant that but him.
